I used the arduino controller for the I/O in the teach pendant. The main reason behind this was because i wanted to use an anolog joystick i had laying around and i wanted to use a rotary encoder for the z axis.
The arduino is probably the best thing that happened since the internet. It's such an easy to use DIY microcontroller, that has an amazing amount of support. I give this product 4 stars out of 4. I also order the ampifier for the stepper motors on www.sparkfun.com, along with the arduino.
